Arnold recorded his first single, "Mommy Please Stay Home With Me," in 1944 for RCA Victor. At RCA, the singer received the guidance of the label's A&R head, Steve Sholes, which proved to be invaluable help for his career. Eddy Arnold pursued a solo career in 1945, the same year he got married to Sally Gayhart.
