Let Them Talk is the debut studio album by English actor and musician Hugh Laurie. The album, which consists of classic blues songs, was released on 9 May 2011. Some of the songs are collaborations with well-known artists such as Tom Jones, Irma Thomas and Dr. John. Laurie plays piano and guitar on the album in addition to providing lead vocals. Kevin Breit plays guitar and Vincent Henry plays saxophones. The album was produced by Joe Henry and features horn arrangements by Allen Toussaint.
Which isn’t to say that he quite makes this selection of standards his own, either. There are reworkings and reinterpretations, Tipitina in particular being turned on its head, but the problem with Let Them Talk isn’t the guts and blood of the music, or the slightly studious air Henry cultivates. No, the problem is how Laurie’s blues accent inevitably slides into affectations quite familiar from House.

However, Let Them Talk shows that with the right person and the right music, actors can actually put in a decent shift at the microphone stand. Laurie’s voice, whilst not perfect, sits comfortably within the blues structure of the album and whilst he’s not going to win any awards for his singing, he performs more than adequately here. Freed from slavery the blues embraced improvised songs to tell about the Negros' troubles with pathos and humour - and Hugh Laurie taps into this incredibly rich heritage. With some chorus backing and strings his voice is perfect for the spiritual & Of Jericho', and there is a suitably aching voice for & You've Gone' with guest Dr.
