The Devil You Know is the only studio album from heavy metal band Heaven & Hell; the members had previously recorded as a group in an earlier line-up of Black Sabbath. The Devil You Know was Ronnie James Dio's final studio appearance prior to his death in May 2010. The album's US import was released in Japan on 24 April 2009, four days earlier than its original due date of 28 April. The Japan domestic pressing which is a SHM-CD (Super High Material CD) was released on 27 April

I Youll realize Im not your Devil anymore Under the words of men Something is tempting the father Where is your will, my friend? Insatiates never even bother You and I, wrong or right Traded a lie for the leverage In between the lens in light Youre not what you seem Step inside, see the Devil in I Too many times, weve let it come to this Step inside, see the Devil in I Youll realize Im not your Devil Im not your Devil anymore Your station. is abandoned Fooled you cause I know what youve done Sensation - Depravation You shouldve burned when you turned on everyone So, Step inside, see the Devil.

Heaven and Hell Lyrics. Sing me a song, you're a singer Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil The Devil is never a maker The less that you give, you're a taker. So, it's on and on and on It's Heaven and Hell, oh well. The lover of life's not a sinner The ending is just a beginner The closer you get to the meaning The sooner you'll know that you're dreaming. Dio has said that the lyrics are about which path we take. Whether it be the path to Heaven, or the path to Hell. He said this song was written for the religious people who force you to do things and make you think that everything is evil. This song is supposed to tell you to choose your own path, which makes you a good person. In the liner notes to the 2003 compilation Stand Up And And Shout: The Anthology, Ronnie James Dio had this to say

This particular Dio fronted BLACK SABBATH lineup changed their name to HEAVEN & HELL for legal reasons. And sadly this would be Dio's last studio album with Iommi, Butler and Appice. That is one crazy album cover though. I actually got this for Christmas last year from my oldest daughter and played it a couple of times over the holidays but was left feeling pretty disappointed. This is slow moving, doomy music for the most part and I guess I was expecting something more like "Mob Rules" or "Heaven & Hell". Each track seems to feature a short Iommi guitar solo.

Lyrics to "Me And The Devil" song by The Fratellis: She said, "I know that there will come a time When I get nothing from the blood and the wine" I'm g. .Give it up, let it go The sooner you do the sooner I'll go I'm digging the dirt for a sign And I'll pray to let my little light shine And set my heart on the line. I'm gonna sell this soul of mine I'm gonna sell this soul of mine I'm gonna sell this soul of mine I'm gonna sell this soul of mine. I'm going to lose my lonely mind for you I'm going to lose my lonely mind for you I'm going to lose my lonely mind for you I'm going to lose my lonely mind I'm going to lose my lonely mind I'm going to lose my lonely mind for you. Submit.

The album artwork is adapted from a painting by Per Haagensen called "Satan. Wal-Mart offers an exclusive alternate cover that prominently features the traditional Black Sabbath devil logo. The numbers 25 and 41 that feature either side of the devil logo refer to the Bible verse Matthew 25:41, that deals with the Last Judgement where those who sit at the left side of God were cast down into Hell.

This gives The Devil You Know a feeling of genuine doom that leaves little opportunity for the catharsis provided by classic heavy metal. While the Osbourne-fronted and Dio-fronted versions of Black Sabbath are, again, very different bands, this is an album that matches its moment every bit as perfectly as Paranoid did back in 1970.
