Animal Collective - Campfire Songs album
Campfire Songs is the debut and only album by the American band Campfire Songs, released in March 2003. A collaborative work between Dave Portner, Noah Lennox, and Josh Dibb, it was later retroactively classified as the third studio album by experimental pop band Animal Collective. The album comprises five individual songs played back to back and recorded in one take.

I tried to be discreet when I listened to this Campfire Songs CD; I tried to make sure he was beyond earshot of this Animal Collective offshoot, as the vibrations would no doubt come to bear on all those dark, mosquito-filled evenings he missed. Recorded on somebody's porch in rural Maryland, Campfire Songs is supremely relaxed, intent on reveling in the blissful pastoralism longed for by Avey Tare and Geologist's "Good Country: (off of Danse Manatee), yet not by way of its tribal electronics and urban babble
This album might be the prettiest that Animal Collective have ever sounded. It's strange to hear a band as noisy and chaotic as they are to sound so stripped back and mellow, but I think it works. Campfire Songs" is a beautiful pack of pretty depressing songs. It's definitely not as noisy as AnCo's other records and the last two songs wear thin into tedium but it's still a huge step up from their lackluster sophomore album. Fav Tracks: Doggy, Queen In My Pictures, Two Corvettes. Least Fav Track: Moo Rah Rah Rain.
Animal Collective, Feels (2005) The run from Campfire Songs to this, Animal Collective’s sixth album, still stands as their most productive period to date. Neither representing the culmination of their work during that period nor reflecting an entirely new direction for the band, the electric and freaked-out Feels featured Dibb and Weitz returning, along with a temporary fifth member contributing throughout: former Múm member Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir, who was then married to Portner and would later get in the studio with him again on the intentionally. Fittingly, plenty of Strawberry Jam rough drafts made up setlists for the tour behind Feels - an explosive and trippy run of live shows that, in this writer’s opinion, would come to be matched only by the band’s incredible pre–Merriweather Post Pavilion itinerary.
Animal Collective: Campfire Songs. By Kaitlin Nichols · On September 4, 2012. This was supposed to be a different album – a warmer, deeper album. As spontaneous as it feels, it was meticulously planned and impeccably executed. Though not technically acting under the Animal Collective name, Avey Tare, Panda Bear and newcomer Deakin (Josh Gibbs) performed on one of their most unique albums to date, Campfire Songs, with Geologist present and assisting in the recordings. While Geologist’s debut album, Danse Manatee, was one that fell a bit flat, Deakin’s debut here is nothing short of memorable
I heard the other day that a brand new Animal Collective single was purportedly on its way, which samples Phil Lesh’s mighty Unbroken Chain one of my favourite Dead songs. First, though, there’s a reissue of 2003’s ghostly Campfire Songs ; an album which, I guess, may come as something of a shock to people who’ve only been exposed to Animal Collective’s last couple of albums.
Campfire Songs is the third studio album by Animal Collective. Comprised of five songs, Campfire Songs is incredibly different than Spirit They’ve. Animal Collective albums where they had a far more psychedelic sound to them, the sound present throughout Campfire Songs may not be to your liking as it’s more of a relaxation album rather than a traditional product. Nevertheless, the band is able to create a wonderful atmosphere from start to finish with this record and it would be a mistake to not at least give it a try.
