Earth, Wind & Fire - Last Days And Time album
Last Days and Time is the third studio album by American R&B group Earth, Wind & Fire, released in October 1972 on Columbia Records. The album rose to No. 15 on the Billboard Top Soul Albums chart. Last Days and Time was produced by Joe Wissert and recorded at Sunset Sound Studios in Hollywood, California.
Earth, Wind & Fire were nothing if not ambitious, and by the time of their third album they had forged an individual sound by absorbing nearly everything that had gone before them in the previous ten years. It was as if they were trying to encapsulate every eclectic foray pursued by Motown, from catchy, rhythmic pop to churning funk, and even from Stevie Wonder singing borrowed folk songs like "Blowin' in the Wind" (here, Philip Bailey did "Where Have All the Flowers Gone") to the schmaltzy, string-filled pop that spelled legitimacy to Motown
The band would go on to polish and refine its all-encompassing sound, but even if they had never released another album, this would still stand as one of the era’s most unique and exciting vocal R&B albums. The influence of Curtis Mayfield is strong - never a bad thing, and pretty much inevitable for a Chicago group from this era - especially on They Don’t See, Remember the Children and I’d Rather Have You. At the same time there are several songs that are so unique they could have onl. .01 Time Is On Your Side.

This is a very raw and tribal funky jazz rock fusion sound with echoes of smoother pop-influenced aspirations which they would sharpen to a fine point within the next few years with the help of the late great Charles Stepney and later others like David Foster, Bill Champlain, and other writers and production assistants.
