Carnarium Eternal 8. Sacred Soil. Goblin Shark Fans were definitely saddened by the departure of former frontman Chance and thought, "Skeletonwitch will never be the same. This album is a far cry from, say, Beyond the Permafrost, but you know what? Change is good!!! New frontman Adam is coming into his own here and this album is beautifully sinister, dynamic, powerful, and features lengthier songs and elements outside Skeletonwitch's norm, like softer interludes and slower tempos.

In general, each album from 2007’s Beyond the Permafrost through 2013’s Serpents Unleashed more or less carried the same relentless and visceral sound throughout. However, while the band’s formula proved to be a success and contributed to a fairly enjoyable and consistent discography, some began to wonder if Skeletonwitch was capable of anything more than their usual melodic blackened thrash sound. Thankfully the band decided to switch things up a little with this year’s Devouring Radiant Light

On Devouring Radiant Light, Skeletonwitch slay ghosts, dragons and expectations as the band berserks its way across the threshold of greatness. To be fair, it’s not as if Joseph Campbell didn’t try to warn them.
Devouring Radiant Light doesn’t abandon Skeletonwitch’s uncouth thrash antics altogether, of course. The skittering riffs and cascading hooks that populate rippers like When Paradise Fades and Carnarium Eternal evoke the genre’s ’80s heyday, as do the haggard, Megadeth-esque verses driving The Luminous Sky. The distinguishing factor here is a matter of overarching construction.
