The Cannonball Adderley Quintet in San Francisco is a 1959 album by The Cannonball Adderley Quintet. The groundbreaking album launched "soul jazz", according to NPR, bridging "the gap between bebop and funk".

When the CANNONBALL ADDERLEY QUINTET finished Hi-Fly – the closing number after a four week engagement at The Jazz Workshop in San Francisco in October of 1959 – the audience stood and cheered and whistled and clapped for fifteen minutes. Matrix, Runout (Side A Label): RLP 12-311 A.

Both Cannonball and Nat Adderley play with stunning, bluesy brilliance here, while the rhythm section ably anchors the proceedings. Outside of Somethin' Else, Adderley's 1958 masterpiece, In San Francisco may be the saxophonist's defining moment.
