Jefferson Airplane was a rock band based in San Francisco, California that became one of the pioneering bands of psychedelic rock. Formed in 1965, the group defined the San Francisco Sound and was the first from the Bay Area to achieve international commercial success. They were headliners at the three most famous American rock festivals of the 1960s-Monterey (1967), Woodstock (1969) and Altamont (1969)-and the first Isle of Wight Festival (1968) in England.
He graduated from Staunton Military Academy. He attended Duke, Marshall and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He was a member of the American, West Virginia and Cabell County medical societies. His wife, Peggy, died on the plane with him. They were survived by three daughters, Debbie, Cindy and Tara. Debbie and Cindy were Marshall cheerleaders. They had not attended the game, as there were not enough plane seats to accommodate the entire squad. He was 20 at the time of the crash. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1968 and served as manager of the basketball team for three years. He was a junior at Marshall and had been a reporter for The Parthenon, the school's student newspaper.

Croce, with West and Terry Cashman producing, cut an album in 1969, and when it failed to sell, he became a truck driver until he and Ingrid moved to a farm in Lyndell, Pennsylvania.
