But it was as Chilly Billy that Cardille first found his greatest fame as the host of Pittsburgh-based Saturday night horror movie show Chiller Theatre, which ran from 1963 to 1983 and featured Cardille hosting and screening a myriad horror and sci-fi classics and curiosities. After a life spent on broadcasting in the Pittsburgh area, the Pittsburgh City Council declared that September 28th would be recognized as Bill Cardille Day. William Robert Cardille (December 10, 1928 – July 21, 2016), also known as "Chilly Billy", was an American broadcast personality from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Born in Farrell, Pennsylvania, Cardille was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Cardille of Sharon, Pennsylvania. He was a 1947 graduate of Sharon High School. He majored in English and speech at State Teachers College at Indiana in Indiana, Pennsylvania, where he played varsity tennis and basketball.
