Sailcat - Motorcycle Mama album
Sailcat was an American rock band that was signed with Elektra Records in the early 1970s and best known for the hit song "Motorcycle Mama". The band, an early Southern Pop/Rock setup, was the innovation of John D. Wyker and Court Pickett, who formed the group in 1971 near Decatur, Alabama. Wyker was a veteran of the Muscle Shoals, Alabama rock music scene who had been in The Rubber Band with John Townsend (later of the Sanford-Townsend Band).
Album Motorcycle Mama. Motorcycle Mama Lyrics. Tell your daddy and your mama too You got something better to do Than stick around the house the rest of your life You're eighteen you can do what you like. You'll be the queen of my highway, my motorcycle mama And we'll see the world from my Harley. We'll get matching jackets and helmets too We'll get respect from the towns we ride through We'll sleep at the roadside in the soft green grass And if the squares walk by, we'll let them pass.
Alabama's Sailcat only released one album and only had one hit, both titled Motorcycle Mama. The song, of course, is better-remembered than the album, as it was one of many hazy oddities that played on AM pop radio during the early '70s and subsequently was recycled on many CDs of '70s hits (it was also covered by the Sugarcubes for the 1990 Elektra tribute, Rubaiyat), and the sunny, hippie-dippie vibe of the. single is indeed memorable, but not a very good indication of the rest of the LP, which is hippie but also more trippy than the hit indicates.
