The Early Years (1996–2001) is a compilation album by Christian rock band Skillet. It includes songs from Skillet's first five studio albums, excluding Ardent Worship. Two music videos, "Best Kept Secret" and "Gasoline" are also included in the compilation. John Cooper – lead vocals, bass. Ken Steorts – lead guitar (tracks 2–5, 7, 11). Kevin Haaland – lead guitar (tracks 1, 6, 10, 12). Ben Kasica – lead guitar (tracks 8, 9, 13).

Before 'And One' the band performed the 'In Yourself' jam that appeared a few times in May and June 2001. Joe played a short DJ session before 'Forgotten'. After 'Forgotten', the band teased a short cover of 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns N' Roses. After the cover, Mike asked if they wanted to rehearse it again due to them playing it poorly.
