Pet Shop Boys - Nightlife album

Size MP3 album: 1200 mb. | Size FLAC album: 1780 mb.

Nightlife is the seventh studio album by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys. It was released on 8 October 1999 by Parlophone. After the release and promotion of their previous album, Bilingual, Pet Shop Boys started work with playwright Jonathan Harvey on the stage musical that eventually became Closer to Heaven (at one stage during the writing process, the musical was given the name of Nightlife)

On October 11, 1999, the Pet Shop Boys release their new album, Nightlife, which includes twelve new songs. The songs are variously produced by Craig Armstrong, Rollo, David Morales and the Pet Shop Boys themselves. On one song, In denial, Neil duets with Kylie Minogue. In terms of its theme, the album reminds me in some ways of one of those Frank Sinatra albums from the Fifties like In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning.

Nightlife', the darkly orchestrated collaboration with producers Rollo, Craig Armstrong and David Morales, originally released in 1999, is reissued here with two 'Further listening' CDs, including exclusive, unreleased tracks such as ‘Playing in the streets’, ‘Tall thin men’ and ‘For all of us’ and demo versions of ‘Vampires’, ‘Call me old-fashioned’ and ‘Radiophonic’.

Nightlife is a loose concept album - more of a song cycle, really - about nightlife (naturally), a collection of moods and themes, from love to loneliness. In that sense, it's not that different from most Pet Shop Boys albums, and, musically, the album is very much of a piece with Very and Bilingual, which is to say that it relies more on craft than on innovation. Depending on your point of view, this may not be such a bad thing, since Pet Shop Boys specialize in subtle craft and masterful understatement.

Producer – Pet Shop Boys. Early copies include a Pet Shop Boys catalogue.

English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys have released 13 studio albums, three live albums, eight compilation albums, four remix albums, three soundtrack albums, two extended plays and 55 singles. The duo's debut single, "West End Girls", was first released in 1984 but failed to chart in most regions.

Nightlife’ is a fabulous mix of lush strings (the Craig Armstrong produced tracks) and banging beats, produced by either David Morales or Rollo, of Faithless fame. They dressed up for this album, famously with crazy wigs and costumes designed by award-winning theatre designer Ian MacNeil. It wasn’t to everybody’s taste, but I actually think this one of PSBs best albums. What does it all mean ? If you overlooked PSBs mid-career albums, this, along with ‘Release’ and ‘Fundamental’ are worth a revisit – great value CD packages with loads of interesting and obscure stuff, including three rather.
