Surf's Up is the 17th studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released in 1971. It was met with a warm critical reception and reached number 29 on the US record charts, becoming their highest-charting LP of new music in the US since 1967. In the UK, Surf's Up peaked at number 15, continuing a string of top 40 records that had not abated since 1965.

The Beach Boys: Album Guide. America’s longest-running band - from surf rock to studio symphonies and beyond. The title tune is their teen-spirit anthem, souping up the Chuck Berry riff from Sweet Little Sixteen. Going Deeper: ‘Beach Boys’ Party!’ (1965). How did the Beach Boys spend the Summer of Love? Hiding out in the studio, of course. Smiley Smile (imagined as a stripped-down Smile) is loose and quirky, not far from Dylan and the Band’s Basement Tapes.

Sunflower (The Beach Boys album). Sunflower is the 16th studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released in August 1970, and their first on Reprise Records. record charts during a four-week stay, and becoming the lowest-charting Beach Boys album to that point. 20/20 is the 15th studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on February 10, 1969. The LP was named for being their 20th overall album release. Much of it consists of outtakes from earlier albums. It reached number 3 on UK record charts and number 68 in the US. Brian Wilson was absent during most of the album's recording after admitting himself into a psychiatric hospital, requiring brothers Carl and Dennis to retrieve several outtakes he had recorded years earlier.

This is a close-up of the park map from the 1960's. The Beach Boys were in the "children's zoo" at bottom left, marked by an arrow. Here's where the zoo is located in relation to San Diego. Then it dawned on him that it was the Beach Boys album cover spot. So he took the picture of the cliffs that you see here. The photos I had of the beach and cliff from the web didn't line up half as good as Dave's, so Dave, "Thanks for thinking of Popspots!" (Photo by Dave Meinzer). Here's the PopSpot of the site.

NOTE: Although The Beach Boys' reputation was built as a singles act, it was through listening to their albums that I really grew to love them. The depth of their albums, starting with Surfer Girl on, began to be filled with not only the familiar hit singles, but increasingly challenging album cuts and production touches that made them the envy of their contemporaries.
