Opeth - Deliverance album
Deliverance is the sixth studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. It was released on 12 November 2002. It was recorded between 22 July and 4 September 2002 (see 2002 in music), at the same time as Damnation, which was released the following year.
Produced by Steven Wilson & Mikael Åkerfeldt. Floating on mist Crept up the caverns of my brain Receiving no warning From nothing to a life code. Walk with me, you'll never leave Wait to see your spirit free.
Deliverance was the album that got me into Opeth. I didn’t know them before. At first I didn’t like it very much but it wasn’t too long until I started to appreciate their unique sound. Being one of their heaviest albums, Deliverance still keeps up all the typical Opeth elements: progressive death metal, complex songwriting, long songs, amazing growls, nice clean vocals, wonderful acoustic parts and, above it all, a mystical, dreamy atmosphere. The only thing I don’t like about this album is the sound.
As Blackwater Park did before, Opeth's sixth album once again failed to live up to the band's previous release when it was unleashed just a year later in 2002. Although not necessarily bad, it fails to captivate the listener or provide an overall exciting listening experience.

The companion album of Opeth's opus, Damnation, Deliverance was intended to provide a contrast to Damnation's tranquil, somewhat depressing progressive rock with a far heavier sound (also with a touch of depressing overtones, though this is less prevalent than in Damnation). In some ways, Opeth succeed. Deliverance is definitely the Swedish band's heaviest recording and generally sticks to the brutal metal like the band promised. On the flip side, the album fails where Akerfeldt and his men usually succeed. Expressing themselves

Opeth's last album Blackwater Park is a masterpiece and instead of trying to make a similar album, the band went in a new direction. Deliverance still features Opeth's classic progressive death metal sound, but the band implemented some noticeable changes beginning with a much darker sounding production, heavier guitars, and a more straightforward death metal approach at times. This was a welcome change that added another unique release to the band's already impressive discography.
