Monster Magnet's allegiance to Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, and Iggy & The Stooges has always guaranteed its albums will be packed with strong, guiding riffs and a sense of fun lurking under heavy rhythms. Leader Dave Wyndorf is a battle-tested veteran who knows this music inside and out. He applies this knowledge with an even hand, writing true anthems with the flashback power of the title track, "Negasonic Teenage Warhead", and the scorched-earth theatrics of "Ego, the Living Planet".

Although I’m a huge fan of Monster Magnet’s Powertrip album, Dopes to Infinity may in fact be their definitive work. If there was ever a band that could compress the space rock bombast of Hawkwind into a digestible stream and seamlessly marry it to some straight up Black Sabbath riffage, it was Monster Magnet. This isn’t overly complex or technical music,.
