Asobi Seksu / Boris - Asobi Seksu x Boris Split EP album
On the B-Side Boris cover Asobi Seksu’s New Years, appropriately renamed Neu Years. The limited Asobi Seksu X Boris split drops on Record Store Day Black Friday - Digitally there are also four bonus tracks 2 from each band.
The digital download version includes four bonus tracks: Perfectly Crystal and Meh no Mae by Asobi Seksu and Flare and Spoon by Boris. The tracks seem to more or less be album versions from each band (not each band covering the other). This version of Flare is shorter than the version on New Album. It jumps straight into the song and skips the siren on the album version. The version of Spoon is the same as on New Album. Responder Notifique-me 1 Helpful.

Advertise on Metal Storm. A band I hate making a split with a band I love and each one making a cover of each other. Now that's something I need to hear.
The EP opens with Asobi Seksu’s contribution, a cover of Boris’ epic Farewell, from the album Pink. Farewell is one of Boris’ most shoegaze-y songs, with delayed guitar and ethereal vocals taking the lead, so it’s no surprise dreampop band Asobi Seksu would choose to cover it. The track largely consists of oozy synth chords played over a simply beat, with guitarist James Hanna contributing some effect heavy guitar in the background. In contrast to the Asobi Seksu track, this version of Boris is one we really haven’t heard before. Wata comes in on slightly distorted guitar, but also adds her own brand of vocals to the mix. It sounds slightly strained at times, since Wata usually sings at a lower register than Yuki.

Asobi Seksu was an American shoegaze/dream pop band based in New York City. Their music used a textured and effects-heavy vocal and guitar sound. The band primarily consisted of Yuki Chikudate (vocals, keyboards) and James Hanna (guitar, vocals). Forming in 2001, the band was originally known as Sportfuck, and issued an EP under that name that year. The band then changed their name to Asobi Seksu, from the Japanese 遊びセックス (asobi sekkusu), "play sex".
