The Strokes - Is This It album
Is This It is the debut studio album by American rock band the Strokes, released on July 30, 2001, by RCA Records. It was recorded at Transporterraum in New York City with producer Gordon Raphael from March to April 2001. For their debut, the band strived to capture a simple sound that was not significantly enhanced in the studio.
Is This It. The Strokes. Produced by Gordon Raphael. Album Is This It. Is This It Lyrics. Can't you see I'm trying? I don't even like it I just lied to get to your apartment Now I'm staying there just for a while I can't think, 'cause I'm just way too tired. This opening track to The Stokes' 2001 debut ended up arbitrarily spawning the album’s title. When we were trying to find titles for the record it could’ve been called Take It Or Leave It or any of them, but I thought it sounded cool in more ways than one. It’s deep without being pretentious. Is This It is the first album of The Strokes. The Strokes released their debut album Is This It in the US in October 2001 on RCA after some delay due to changes made from the UK-released version (released August 27, 2001). The cover of the latter features a black-and-white photo of a gloved hand on a woman's naked backside, shown in semi-profile. The naked model on the cover was photographer Colin Lane's girlfriend at the time.
On July 30, 2001, – 15 years ago – The Strokes released their debut album ‘Is This It’ in Australia, the very first place the record hit the shelves. We don’t need to explain why the NYC classic’s legacy lives on 15 years later – after all we gave it 10/10 upon release and named it the fourth best album ever in our Greatest Album Of All Time list in 2013
Granted, their high-fashion appeal and faultless influences - Television, the Stooges, and especially Lou Reed and the Velvets - have "critics' darlings" written all over them. But like the similarly lauded Elastica and Supergrass before them, the Strokes don't rehash the sounds that inspire them - they remake them in their own image.
So it goes with the Strokes, a band that's seen enough publicity in 2001 to make bin Laden jealous. Touted by the press as "the forefathers of a bold new era in rock," "the greatest rock band since the Rolling Stones" and "the second coming of the Velvet Underground," the Strokes have nowhere to go but out of style.
