Complete your The Wallflowers collection. Red Letter Days is already the fourth album of the Group and there is more than ever a matter of wide sounding guitar rock, in which referred to a variety of rockers as Bryan Adams (especially the production) and Manfred Mann's Earth Band (the synths in the opener When you're On Top). Fixed fans will have to get used to the polished and heavily produced sound but a breakthrough to a wide audience is more than ever within the possibilities.

The first striking thing about the album is that its production is a clear reaction to the failure of Breach. Glistening where its predecessor had a semblance of grit, this is a polished mainstream rock record, designed to win back listeners who loved the band by hearing "One Headlight" on the radio repeatedly. Dylan has adjusted his songwriting slightly, too, playing up the hooks and the melodies, which is hardly selling out. Even so, it's hard not to wish that the album had a bit more of the quirks and muscle that gave Breach its backbone.

The songs on Red Letter Days are a lot of fun all the way through, and they’re always easy to listen to. Nearly all consist of a horus-verse-chorus, with the chorus including the song title, and nearly all are loud, exciting, and upbeat. In fact, Red Letter Days may be the most bluntly happy album I’ve come across (although I haven’t heard all that many). The Wallflowers aren’t doing anything new here, but it’s a solid album, a must for fans or anybody seeking to put themselves in a good mood. I can’t help but lamenting the fact that brilliant line’s like One Headlight ‘s Come and try a little/Nothing is forever/There’s got to be something better than in the middle/Me and Cinderella/Put it all together/We can drive it home/With one headlight have now been replaced by I feel fine with the sun in my.
