Live from KCRW is the fourth live album by the Australian alternative rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. It was released on 29 November 2013 on Bad Seed Ltd. The album features a live radio session recorded for KCRW on 18 April 2013 at Apogee Studio in Los Angeles, California, United States. The session, which featured a stripped-down line-up performing songs from the band's back catalogue and their most recent release, Push the Sky Away (2013), was recorded by Bob Clearmountain.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds announce the release of a new album – ‘Live from KCRW’. The fourth official live album in the band’s history, it features a stripped-down line-up performing classic Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds material alongside four songs from their recent global hit album ‘Push the Sky Away’. Due for release on December 2nd, the recordings were made earlier this year at a live KCRW radio session at Apogee Studio in Los Angeles. The session was recorded by Bob Clearmountain on April 18, between the band’s two Coachella festival appearances

The Bad Seeds discography is hardly lacking for concert documents, but this something of a wild card among them. Upon its release last February, Push the Sky Away immediately asserted itself as an outlier amid the Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds catalogue. It was the rare album of theirs to favor vaporous, smoke-ring ambience over the band’s notorious gavel-crushing wallop, and drifting, abstract lyricism over Cave’s usual scripture-scaled narratives. But it’s not like this risky low-key detour hurt their live draw: the Bad Seeds’ spring 2013 tours saw them selling out soft-seaters worldwide, and a recently released 2014 itinerary sees them returning to many of the same markets at even bigger venues.

At the end of a three month World tour for "Push The Sky Away", in the spring of 2013, Nick Cave and a pared down version of the Bad Seeds performed a show in California for KCRW in front of 180 people. No rehearsals, no cameras, no overdubs. Recorded for KCRW at Apogee Studio on April 18th 2013. Mastered at Howie Weinberg Mastering, Los Angeles. Packaged in digipak cover. Under exclusive license to Kobalt Label Services 2013.

In April 2013, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds were booked to play the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and with the same lineup of acts appearing two consecutive weekends, Cave and his bandmates had a few days to kill in California. During their downtime in the Golden State, Cave and the Bad Seeds cut a live-in-the-studio session for Santa Monica's public radio station KCRW-FM, and the recordings have been released under the straightforward (if less than imaginative) title Live from KCRW.

2013 has been a remarkable year for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. In February they released one of their finest albums ever by the name of Push The Sky Away. Come June and Nick and his band were destroying the main stage at Glastonbury, with the highlight being one of the most mesmerising versions of Stagger Lee ever. To top it all, he brought his latest tour to the UK with a spellbinding performance in Manchester, and a duet with Kylie in London for the forthcoming film; 20,000 Days On Earth. And now they’ve released this live album. Live albums by nature divide opinion. Live from KCRW hosts ten songs (twelve on LP) that are played in a seemingly more stripped back fashion and were recorded for a radio session in America. Much of the collection is made up of material from Push The Sky Away. Higgs Boson Blues opens the album with its dreamy guitar line and vocal harmonies.

KCRW Radio Session recorded live at the Apogee Studio, Los Angeles, California, United States, 18/04/2013. 1. Higgs Boson Blues. 2. Far from Me. 3. Stranger Than Kindness. 5. And No More Shall We Part. 8. People Ain't No Good. 9. Push the Sky Away. 12. God Is in the House.

The compact audience at Los Angeles’ Apogee Studios can be heard shouting adoring song requests - Nick The Stripper! - on this document of an April 2013 radio session. Eventually you’ll say one of the songs on this very short list here, Cave laughs, before plunging into Stranger Than Kindness. Fans could shout themselves hoarse before exhausting the options, though, and these ten songs (Into My Arms and God Is In The House are vinyl additions) show off the Bad Seeds’ ever-deepening repertoire. Listen to tracks from the album on YouTube starting with Wide Lovely Eyes:. and here’s the album trailer: Victoria Segal.

A fairly low-key "live" album, recorded for radio in front of a small audience. Would have liked a "proper" live album instead but this is also a nice addition to Nick Cave's work. Mercy Seat" in particular stands out as perhaps being the best version yet and I like the "Push the Sky Away" songs better here than on the original album. Recommended for Nick Cave fans.
