Britten, Rostropovich ‎– The Suites For Cello. Benjamin Britten - Mstislav Rostropovitch - Cello Suites O. 2 & O. 0 ‎(Cass, Album, C60).

Album · 1989 · 19 Songs. Sonata in C for Cello and Piano O. 5. Mstislav Rostropovich & Benjamin Britten. 15. Sonata in C for Cello and Piano Op. 65: I. Dialogo.

The cello suites by Benjamin Britten (Opp. 72, 80, and 87) are a series of three compositions for solo cello, dedicated to Mstislav Rostropovich. The suites were the first original solo instrumental music that Britten wrote for and dedicated to Rostropovich, but Britten had earlier composed a cadenza for Joseph Haydn's Cello Concerto in C major, for Rostropovich, in 1964. Rostropovich gave the first performances of each work, and recorded Suites Nos 1 and 2 commercially.

His cello muse (Rostropovich) has encouraged Britten to explore the dark and textured sounds of the modern cello. This recording gives permanence to some of the best cello playing I have ever heard. The Sonata with Britten at the piano is magnificent as well.

The Classical album has 19 tracks. Hot Albums by Mstislav Rostropovich & Benjamin Britten.

Album: Britten Cello Suites. Artist: Jamie Walton, George Frideric Handel, Benjamin Britten. Label: Signum Classics. Benjamin Britten’s three suites for solo cello were written for the great Russian Mstislav Rostropovich – the two men managed to sustain a deep creative relationship in spite of the Cold War politics of the 1960s and 1970s. The multi-faceted ghost of Bach haunts the music. There are fugues, dance movements, a chaconne and a passacaglia. And the Third Suite bows to Russia, using material from Tchaikovsky songs and the Orthodox Kontakion as well as directly from.

BENJAMIN BRITTEN - Cello Suites 1 And 2 - Sonata For Cello And Piano - Mstislav Rostropovich - Benjamin Britten . . The Russian's unsurpassable recordings of Nos 1 & 2 are essential listening. Interprétation d'une fabuleuse mobilité dans l'expression.
