Alright, so I finally secured a copy of this Dark Entries press. The GC1 version sounds great. There's still those odd ticks at the very start (are they a part of the track or the vinyl rip?), but other than that it sounds fantastic. No sibilance thankfully. Also, I'm very impressed with the inserts. A very nice job indeed. I had no idea about the Oakland Ghost Ship fire, it's very sad to see the artist's images of all those who died.Very touching.I am glad to say that the sound quality of this release is superb, regardless of any forced sentimentality.
I think those ticks are most likely part of the vinyl it was recorded from, since they only show up in the right channel during the intro. GC1 version is most likely one of those records where the original tapes are long-gone. that said, vinyl rips don't automatically amount to bad quality if they're digitized, cleaned up and mastered properly, and brief ticks aside, the version here does sound quite good, considering the limitations of the source material.i'm still intending to track down the original releases for collection's sake (not to mention the B-sides like "nightdrive") but this reissue sounds quite good, is as well-packaged as any dark entries release, and provides a great way to hear all the different versions of the song in one place, so no complaints here
Top sound quality, great remastered 2017 repress. All tracks sounds fantastic. 5/5
What about the GC1 Version? Is it the same vinyl rip that was issued a few years ago (complete with sibilance and ticks / pops)?EDIT: Anyone with actual detailed information?
So... how's the sound quality on this one? Any thoughts yet?
Sound quality is absolutely perfect.. Really impressed.. 3 mo of them words
it sounds good! solid. and comes with cool liner notes.
wow 18 mf copies
Its this version im not sure which one that is http://youtu.be/MKUezv1vhMc
Can anyone shed light on which mix the "1981" version is? Is it the NY or UK mix? Or a different mix / new edit..
"The first version of TransDance (this one) was recorded in Late Spring 1981 at Ridge Farm studio in Surrey owned by rocker Rick Parfitt of Status Quo and within the week after the recording was finished Michael had a recording deal with GC Recordings. This mix of TransDance was pressed onto a white label GC1 and was sent to clubs around Britain and Europe, the reaction to the track was strongest in Germany, Holland and France. A few were sent to the U.S.A and got a good reaction on the New York club circuit. This GC1 white label is now extremely rare and has been know to fetch up £100 on such sites as Ebay."Original source: http://www.domesticaorder.com/releases-nightmoves_transdance.html
Like many reissues this one also suffers from sibilance but it's not too bad.
No sibilance on my copy. Maybe check your stylus?
Fantastic track right on the border between Synth Wave and Italo Disco
When I first heard that Transdance was getting a repress on Copilote I immediately flew online to pre-order my copy.Thankfully I got one of the 500, and I treasure it.What a track! Originally recorded in 1981 (the 1983 UK Club Mix is featured here), this is the real sound of the New Romantic movement. Of course Fade To Grey is the ambassador, but Transdance is the image in my head when I think of the Blitz club. And yes, I was two years of age at that time. This '83 mix predates House by three years, but it could easily fit into a mix of Chicago Warehouse classics. It was an undeniable influence on Electroclash, and again it would fit into any Electro House mix with ease. What's it got? Well, what's it NOT got!Moody male vocal, angelic female singing, tight House percussion, a menacing dark bassline, ice cold synths...A dance music classic.***This review was originally written by me under the assumption that the '83 UK Mix was in fact the original 1981 version. I have amended my review after learning that the 1981 version is in fact noticeably different, in tempo at least (ironically the original 1981 version will mix with Fade To Grey without much pitch change)***
WOW..what a release. Dark, moody and very house like in parts. Definately worth a punt if your into your old acid house/ electro stuff.
This i think was one of the great tracks of the 80's which didn't quite make it into the pop charts even though it had all the right elements but did well on the dance floors of Europe and the East coast of America. Lead singer Michael based in sw London who also wrote TransDance in the spring of 81 and recorded it at Ridge Farm studios with keyboard wizard Denis Haines and engineered by Simon Smart. The GC1 version is very rare and has commanded a whopping 720 Euros/£500 on ebay in M/C The B'side is a dark moody piece of classical inspired electronic genius which isn't to everyone's taste but do give it a listen if you find this great bit of vinyl
I have a mint copy which im grateful for. I do recall this being played out but more Nightdrive rather than Transdance. Worthy investment in my eyes.
Love Me
Agreed. For anyone wondering how a track could command such value, just listen to Transdance while trying to remember it was 1981.Yes; you think of Fade To Grey, Love Is A Stranger, The Sound Of The Crowd when you think of 1981.Think again.
