The baptism of Jesus is described in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. John's gospel does not directly describe Jesus' baptism. Most modern theologians view the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist as a historical event to which a high degree of certainty can be assigned. Along with the crucifixion of Jesus, most biblical scholars view it as one of the two historically certain facts about him, and often use it as the starting point for the study of the historical Jesus.
Can I talk to You a while Can I lay my weary head On Your shoulder again Can I rest beneath Your smile Will You whisper to me As I kneel beside my bed I've been walkin' in the desert I need to hear from You I need Your touch, I need Your love Oh Jesus, speak to me, yeah I need.
John MacArthur, The Ultimate Religious Decision. Jesus said more about Hell than Heaven. Jerry Falwell, Heaven and Hell. Obviously I do believe in hell. Jesus spoke more about hell than heaven. Rick Warren, interview with John Piper. Jesus said more about hell than about any other topic. So Jesus did not, in fact, speak more about hell than heaven. But many people who should know better still seem hell-bent on insisting that He did. How do they arrive at a conclusion so contrary to the facts?
In John 20:17 Jesus sent her off to tell His brethren that He is alive, and verse 18 states that she obeyed. Mark 16:9–11 adds that Mary Magdalene was the first to whom the Lord appeared and that the disciples did not believe her story. Meanwhile, the other women, finding the stone rolled away, entered the tomb and saw an angel sitting on the right. The fact that John only mentions himself, Peter, and Mary Magdalene supports the idea that the women split up. Also, John includes an appearance to Mary Magdalene after Peter and John visit the tomb ( John 20:11–18 ), whereas Matthew 28:9–10 mentions that Jesus appeared to the women (presumably without Mary Magdalene) while they were on the way to tell the other disciples.
