Nothing is so contemptible as habitual contempt. It is impossible to remain long under its control without being dwarfed by its influence. quote by Elias Lyman Magoo on YourDictionary. Nothing is so contemptible as habitual contempt.
Fame, power, and gold, are loved for their own sakes - are worshipped with a blind, habitual idolatry. The pageantry of empire, and the fame of irresistible might, are contemplated by the possessor with unmeaning complacency, without a retrospect to the properties which first made him consider them of value. Why do I have contempt foryou? Because you are contemptible. I have been called a Rogue Elephant, a Cannibal Shark, and a crocodile. I remain a caged, and rather sardonic, lion, in a particularly contemptible and ill-run zoo. Wyndham Lewis.
Ritual de lo Habitual finds Jane’s Addiction thin and wandering, blowing ploys that worked before - overdubs and echoes, loose jamming, Farrell’s playground melodies. Split into a hard-rockin’ side and a prog-rock side, the album doesn’t cohere - whatever the band members have been doing for the last two years, they haven’t been practicing much. Sure, there are moments - the opener, Stop, has an amazing bridge, Ain’t No Right admirably sums up Farrell’s creed ( Ain’t no right/Ain’t no wrong/There’s just pleasure and pain ) and Been Caught Stealing is a real jewel.
