I received my copy just a few days ago and I already have a need to write my thoughts regarding this superb compilation. Amakusa Records raise the bar pretty high with their first two releases and I am eagerly waiting for their next installments as they put a lot of work into their releases and it's obvious that they are after quality over quantity (which is something valuable to cherish). Right of the bat we see here names that make any Goa trance fan jump out of joy - Dimension 5, Ra, Hunab Ku and Chi A.D. Let's review in detail what they have offered us here:1) Ra - Azure Child, An oldschool release which is not easy to find as it was not included on their first album. But it fits well into that style. It is melodic, it is spacey and it makes you dance! Perfect start to set the mood.2) Chi A.D. - Transition, I have to be honest that this was the track I was looking for the most. I am a huge fan of Chi A.D. and I seldom experience disappointment from any of his music. And oh my God, what do we have here. An unreleased track which, according to the style, I would date around Biocandy. Chi A.D. always has managed to use samples correctly. From the beginning, the sample just puts you in trance, together with the brooding effects. And when the beat finally kicks in, you are ready for a ride. The melody that comes after the build-up is just insanely good! Stellar tune! It alone makes this worth and we aren't even half-way through.3) Dimension 5 - Transformation (Taiwan Remix), I enjoy a lot the style from the second album from Dimension 5, therefore I was certain that this remix will accommodate my taste. And, oh yes, it does! Transformation was even before one of the better trancey tracks from Second Phaze and this remix makes it more dancable yet preserves this trippy feeling. I love it!4) Hunab Ku - Sun In My Hands, Hunab Ku has some kind of a mythological status in Goa trance although I think there are better artists in this genre (like Chi A.D.). Nevertheless, this track has again an old-school feel so I suppose it is from the era around the first (and only) album of the group. Trippy, yet groovy and ready to be played on a dancefloor! Fantastic track to test your feet on!5) Ra - Spiritual Odyssey, It seems that it originates from the period of the second album. It is slower but so trippy and alluring. I love the texture the track has and the effects it achieves. Although it is slower, I don't think it disturbs the mood of the compilation. After all, the track is so mesmerising that it will stick for a long time in your mind. The sample usage in it fits it perfectly too.6) Dimension 5 - Fundamental Hippie, Here comes another Dimension 5's track and although it isn't Deep Space 5D quality level, it is surely a treat for your ears. Not as memorable as Chi A.D.'s Transition or Ra's tracks but keeps the level way higher than a usual Goa compilation.7) Chi-A.D. - Exit Eternity, A classic from Chi A.D. One of the most dreamy Goa tunes ever. And it is 10 minutes long. Just pure bliss. I would've preferred if this was some Live edit or Remix as the original has been released on many compilations so far and it is easy to get. Nevertheless, if you haven't heard this marvelous piece of art, do not hesitate to do it asap!8) Electron Wave - Temporal Distortion, Electron Wave is less known group, again with similarity to Dimension 5/ Hunab Ku style. This track is from their first and only album. It is good but I wouldn't say it has the same quality as the tracks before. Feels kinda like a filler but an amazing filler regardless. I also like how it preserves the spacey sound this whole compilation gives.9) Hunab Ku - Children Of The Stones, I have to be honest, I am not very keen on this particular track. The reasons behind that are that it feels out of place among the rest. First, it has a more full-onish sound rather than trippy Goa feel. Second, the samples are cheesy in my opinion. If Chi A.D.'s Transition is an example of how a properly placed sample can enhance a track, Children Of The Stones is an example how a bad sample can ruin an otherwise good track. My biggest issue with the track, however, is how misplaced it feels. You listen 8 gorgeous tracks, full with Goa madness and then you reach number 9 which is a track that probably will feel great on some dancefloor in the middle of the day, followed by other full-on stompers, but not here. I think Hyperspaced would've been a better track for the last spot in the compilation and just leave Hunab Ku on the bonus CD. Or conclude classic style - with an ambient tune. Overall, this compilation is magnificent and I am very glad to have a copy of it. I gave it many listens already and I can't get enough of all the beauty it contains. Even with the last track being somewhat inferiour, I still feel that this is among the best compilations that has come out in recent years. The artwork is also great as it pictures the compilation's mood accurately. The space theme is evident here. Highly recommended for every Goa fan!
