Lyrics to "Everything Must Go" song by Manic Street Preachers: Shed some skin for the fear within Is starting to hurt me with everything Freed from the memory. And if you need an explanation Then everything must go. I look to the future it makes me cry But it seems too real to tell you why. Freed from the century With nothing but memory, memory. This is the band's fourth album and the first since James vanished without a trace; some of his left-behind lyrics are featured in a number of songs here. The ascending and weirdly hypnotic Design for Life tells of cynicism born of class conflicts, and the beautiful and acoustic Small Black Flowers That Grow in the Sky draws attention to poorly treated creatures, both big and small.
Considering the tragic circumstances that surrounded it, Everything Must Go is the strongest, most focused, and certainly the most optimistic album the Manics ever released. Five of the songs feature lyrics Richey left behind before his disappearance, and while offering no motivation for his actions, they do hint at the depths of his despair.

Ultimately, Everything Must Go can be considered Manic Street Preachers' Rumours - an album built out of adversity that went on to be a massive commercial success, and is generally accepted as a classic. Sure, the hardcore fans of the early stuff hate it, but that doesn't mean you have to. Everything Must Go is a stellar album, stuffed with great, anthemic songs, and it's a rewarding listening experience. It loses ground to The Holy Bible simply because it's not as unique, but if Everything Must Go is inferior, it's only slightly so. The Manics delivered here in a way.
