Alice Moore, St. Louis Bessie (Streamline Mae) - St. Louis Women. Vol. 2: Alice Moore 1934-1937, St. Louis Bessie (Streamine Mae) 1941 album
Document's St. Louis Women, Vol. 2 follows the remaining chronologies of two little-known blues vocalists whose recordings might otherwise have continued to languish in obscurity. With 20 titles recorded between 1934 and 1937 for the Decca label, Alice Moore's worldliness and expressive voice compares well with that of Chicago's Lil Green, the post-WWII performer of songs like "Knockin' Myself Out" and "No Good Ma. Alice Moore's music is as different as can be from smutty little party entertainments with naughty punch lines . This fascinating album closes with four Okeh records dated January 21, 1941 and released under the name of Streamline Mae.
Alice Moore was bracingly honest as she sang of cruel, opportunistic men and the stark reality of the holding tank, the government-run health clinic, the workhouse, and the prison cell. Drawing upon personal experience, she sang from the heart and made a point of giving advice to her listeners: "my friends, you let this world of crime alone.
In all she cut thirty-six sides: Two sessions for Paramount in 1929 and nine sessions (the final one went unissued) for Decca between 1934 and 1937. Varianti: Stai visualizzando tutto Alice Moore.
