The Art of Walking was the first Pere Ubu recording that wasn't completely sensational. Red Krayola Mayo Thompson replaced Tom Herman, and while he freely indulges in pushing the envelope when it comes to soloing, he doesn't have Herman's rock sensibility, so there's less pulsating, Chuck Berry-style riffing emerging from the mix. Also, the songs are a tad more obtuse - not that previous Ubu songs weren't, but this collection, with its focus on the pastoral, falls apart when it becomes overly precious. Such is the fate of utopian concept records.

ART OF WALKING MISPRINT
The entire initial run, 5-6000 copies, of the English pressing of AOW (ROUGH 14) and 1800 copies of the US pressing (ROUGH-US-4) were manufactured from the wrong master metalworks.
There is a difference in the over-all mastering of the lp's frequencies that the listener may or may not notice. However, there are significant differences between the mixes of "Arabia" & "Miles". The correct pressing features an "Arabia" with lead vocals. The incorrect pressing features a longer but instrumental version of the song. The correct version of "Miles" is shorter & a warmer mix.
The correct pressing can be identified by the word "Masterdisk" etched into the vinyl at the center of the record. The incorrect pressing can be identified by the words "Porky Prime Cut". There are no differences in the lps' artwork, labels or registration numbers.
