The ninth book in the OUTLANDER series now has a title: GO TELL THE BEES THAT I AM GONE. Talking to your bees is a very old Celtic custom (known in other parts of Europe, too) that made it to the Appalachians. James Infirmary is a traditional American folk song of uncertain origin. It has been attributed by some as the work of Irving Mills, who used the pseudonym Joe Primrose. It’s similar to an 18th century English folk song called The Unfortunate Rake. There are over 120 versions of the song, from Louis Armstrong to Cab Calloway to Betty Boop to Van Morrison to the White Stripes. There are over 20 versions of the lyrics, so the lyrics that follow in this annotation are an amalgamation of many interpretations of the song.

Max Wright, the actor best known as Will Tanner from the sitcom ALF, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. According to CBS Los Angeles, the actor had been diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995 and had been in remission, but he passed away on Wednesday at his home in Hermosa Beach, California  . I’ve never seen an episode of Alf but I’ve loved Max Wright in everything I’ve seen in him and I think about his acting often.
