In Glenn Gould: The Young Maverick, travel back in time to hear a very young Gould perform classics like Bach's Goldberg Variations and Beethoven's Piano Concertos. These recordings all date from the early 1950s when Glenn Gould was between the ages of 18 and 22 and well before he had been discovered by the music world at large. The performances here are taken from live radio broadcasts and thus there is both a sense of spontaneity and a danger of flubbed notes; both those things exist here but the former is by far the more common.
Glenn Herbert Gould (/ɡuːld/; 25 September 1932 – 4 October 1982) was a Canadian pianist who became one of the best-known and most-celebrated classical pianists of the 20th century. He was renowned as an interpreter of the keyboard works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Gould's playing was distinguished by a remarkable technical proficiency and a capacity to articulate the contrapuntal texture of Bach's music.
