Maeror Tri - Saltatrix album

Size MP3 album: 1802 mb. | Size FLAC album: 1858 mb.

Maeror Tri ‎– Saltatrix. Label: Drone Records ‎– DR-01. Limited to 200 copies on green vinyl in handmade sleeves. Recorded by Maeror Tri from May 1991 to November 1992. It's this grey area which makes them so enticing - what are they? - where are they coming from? One thing's for sure - an album of this type of music would be worth investing in (if you're in tune to my taste)

Maeror Tri was an ambient, noise and drone music band from Germany founded in the 1980s which consisted of Stefan "Baraka H" Knappe, Martin "GLITCH" Gitschel and Helge S. Moune. In a way similar to Zoviet France, they used only live instruments to produce music with an enormous number of effects applied. They released music on labels such as Old Europa Cafe, Ant-Zen, Staalplaat, and Soleilmoon.

Does anyone else have a weird copy with different music on it?

The first side is a dense track titled "Saltatrix" which moves in what appears to be a sluggish four note sequence, but is so thick with distorted-but-muted sounds that it is almost difficult to tell. The drums have a bright, clangourous metal-bashin' sound & voices drape across the entire thing in backward echoes. It's metamorphic inner sound is always listenable, always fascinating. I don't know who to compare it to, but it has the singe-minded determination of early SPLINTERED with a sound not dissimilar to, say, a soporific, gravity-sucking COIL, although neither really point in more than a vague direction. The 'B' side consists of two tracks - "Third Sound", which begins like humming human voices carrying down echoing conduits while muffled percussive sounds thunder & rumble in semi-random composition. The voices change gradually, reaching higher, with filter cutting back the mass of noise here & there. It's an odd ritualistic piece, it's limited amount of sounds offering it a much more impressive vocabulary of images than a more cluttered, complex sound might. "These Tears Will Crystalize" continues along a similar line, but is a much more smooth, cool, harmonic track, a drifting series of indistinct images smoothly gathering into something which might be found jammed between more composed tracks on the first THIS MORTAL COIL album, or associated with the PROJEKT label (i.e.. VIDNA OBMANA / SAM ROSENTHAL's "Terrace Of Memories"), or might even find itself at home on the HIC SUNT LEONES label (and that's high praise indeed). I heard a tape album (and indeed reviewed it in SW2) some time ago - the intervening time between then & now has seen MAEROR TRI mature into an interesting group who may use samplers or loops, or perhaps even something more exotic. It's this grey area which makes them so enticing - what are they? - where are they coming from? One thing's for sure - an album of this type of music would be worth investing in (if you're in tune to my taste). A limited number of 200 have been pressed in green dappled vinyl & comes in what looks like a hand-sprayed cover with a photograph affixed (making it even more collectable)..
