The Tim Gaze Band - Band On The Run - Surf Film soundtrack 1979. This is a 2CD set consisting of the original demos – (1st Wave) that we did to get the approval and go-ahead from the interested parties, and then the final recordings, or the ‘real’ ones (2nd Wave), that were done and used for the final soundtrack release on the movie. In those days, you usually had to do ‘demo’ recordings first, so as all and sundry could get an idea of what it was you were proposing to do. I remember now, thinking back, that it was all a bit weird doing a whole lot of recording, only to get the nod from those.

Band on the Run" is the title song of Paul McCartney and Wings' 1973 album Band on the Run. The song was released as a single in 1974, following the success of "Jet", and became an international chart success. The song topped the charts in the United States, also reaching number 3 in the United Kingdom. The single sold over one million copies in 1974 in America. It has since become one of the band's most famous songs.

Paul’s fifth album since the break up of The Beatles, Band on the Run was made under difficult circumstances: band members Denny Seiwell and Henry McCullough left before recordings began in Lagos, Nigeria – which itself proved a challenging environment to work in. Despite the setbacks, Paul, Linda and Denny Laine persevered and Band on the Run – complete with its famous celebrity-packed cover art – proved a triumph. The album topped the US chart three separate times; in the UK, it was the biggest selling studio album of 1974 and spent a miraculous 124 weeks on the chart.

Gaze then joined a new band, Kahvas Jute and contributed his first compositions to their only album, Wide Open (released in January 1971). Soon after its release Gaze rejoined Tamam Shud, remaining with them until the band broke up in August 1972. During this period Gaze and the other members of Tamam Shud played on the sessions for the soundtrack of the landmark Australian surfing film Morning Of The Earth, which became the first Australian film soundtrack to earn a gold record award. For Infinity/Festival Records, the band recorded an unreleased album of music from the soundtrack of a 1979 film, 'Band On The Run'. In early 2000, this material was recovered and released on CD. Concurrent with these activities, he also led the Tim Gaze Band, 1977-79, the personnel including bass player Peter Willersdorf and drummer John Barnes.
