The Chambers Brothers are an American soul band, best known for their eleven-minute 1968 hit "Time Has Come Today". The group was part of the wave of new music that integrated American blues and gospel traditions with modern psychedelic and rock elements. Their music has been kept alive through heavy use in film soundtracks. Originally from Carthage, Mississippi, the Chambers Brothers first honed their skills as members of the choir in their Baptist church.

The Chambers Brothers were known for mixing soul, acid rock, and psychedelic rock. But mixing styles led to some of the issues the band had with their label, Columbia. Lester Chambers was quoted saying, Our style of music scared all the executives at Columbia because we were crazy hippies playing an unusual style of funk, blues, rock, and gospel all combined. We were told by the president of Columbia that we weren’t going to even think about recording ‘Time Has Come Today. And that we must sell it to a white group on Columbia

The follow-up, A New Time-A New Day, yielded another Top 40 hit, a cover of the Otis Redding's classic "I Can't Turn You Loose," but subsequent efforts including 1969's Love, Peace and Happiness and 1970's Live at Fillmore East failed to maintain the commercial momentum. Upon completing 1972's Oh My God!, the Chambers Brothers disbanded, only to reunite two years later for Unbonded
