For the last six weeks of his life, Marc Bolan was presenting his own, eponymous, early evening music show on British TV, combining his own music with a string of special guests.

Rex were an English rock band, formed in 1967 by singer/songwriter and guitarist Marc Bolan. The T. Rex discography consists of four "Tyrannosaurus Rex" and eight "T. Rex" studio albums (one of which appeared with different names and tracklists in different territories), 22 compilation albums, seven live albums, two extended plays, six "Tyrannosaurus Rex" and 22 "T. Rex" singles. The group came to an end after Bolan's death in a car crash in September 1977.

Audio CD, Import, August 11, 1998. This disc collects the tracks Bolan and the final T. Rex lineup recorded for his 6-week TV series MARC in the summer of 1977. The last of these shows would actually air after Bolan's death on September 16. The track listing of this disc features many of T. Rex's biggest hits, but these are all new recordings made specifically for MARC. As a result, they are synth-heavy (as was Bolan's sound in 1977) and abbreviated (since about half were used to close-out the show, and thus fade quite early, like "Get It On").

The passing of Marc Bolan in 1977 happened at a time when the world was still in shock at the death of Elvis Presley a few weeks earlier. Two weeks after the T. Rex frontman died on 16 September, he would have celebrated his 30th birthday. It embraces some of his key early work in his own name, with John’s Children and Tyrannosaurus Rex, many of the vintage hits from the height of Bolanmania, some well-loved album tracks and later T. Rex singles. In one of his very early interviews, aged just 18 and years before he achieved the fame he always craved, Bolan told Maureen Cleave in the Evening Standard in October 1965: Personally, the prospect of being immortal doesn’t excite me; but the prospect of being a materialistic idol for four years does appeal.
