In 1993, during negotiations regarding the release of The Gold Experience, a legal battle ensued between Warner Bros. and Prince over the artistic and financial control of his musical output. During the lawsuit, Prince appeared in public with the word "slave" written on his cheek.

When Prince changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol, it was regarded as both rebellious and foolhardy. In 1993, Prince announced that he would no longer go by the name Prince, but rather by a "Love Symbol" which was a mash-up of the gender symbols for man and woman. It is an unpronounceable symbol whose meaning has not been identified.

Album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic. Meet me early morning And aboard the mansion plane As your traveling higher I know you know my game Underneath the cream I'll meet you And then we'll rearrange Everything you know of love I'll give you reason to change. Get hot with you I wanna get hot with you I wanna get hot with you.

Prince's name is now written as a strange symbol he calls "the love symbol. As such he no longer goes by the name "Prince" and now insists on being referred to as "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince. You know who i mean, The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, Prince". by RoomTemperature November 16, 2013. 48. 9. Get a The Artist Formerly Known as Prince mug for your barber Callisto.

Eventually, the Artist and Warner parted company for good, but by that point, the proper pronunciation of an arcane symbol had become the least of Warner’s - or ’s problems.
