Collins & Harlan, the team of American singers Arthur Collins and Byron G. Harlan formed a popular comic duo between 1903 and 1926. They sang ragtime standards as well as what were known as "coon songs" – music sung by white performers in a black dialect. Their material also employed many other stereotypes of the time including Irishmen and farmers. Fellow recording artist Billy Murray nicknamed them "The Half-Ton Duo" as both men were rather overweight

Baritone Arthur Collins and tenor Byron Harlan were actually such large men that they were sometimes introduced as "the Half Ton Du. Collins was such a heavy piece of human machinery that when he accidentally stepped on a trap door backstage in 1921, the contraption gave way and the singer didn't stop falling until he hit the basement. It took him two years to recover, but either member of the duo could be said to have earned a lengthy hiatus, not to take the accident lightly

Collins wouldn't launch a solo career until more than a decade after joining Genesis, and about five years after he succeeded Peter Gabriel as he group's frontman. At first, his solo albums functioned as a form of release – both creatively and personally. Collins began work on Face Value, his debut, during a period of personal struggle with his marriage. Subsequent records allowed him the opportunity to dabble with more focused songwriting and expansive styles, ranging from dance to adult-contemporary to R&B. A lingering back problem then sent Collins into retirement for a while, and there hasn't been another album since then. But how do they all stack up?
